About The Guest

Alina Fernandez Revuelta

Born in Havana, Cuba, Alina Fernández Revuelta is the daughter of Fidel Castro and one of the most outspoken critics of her father’s communist regime. Raised in the shadow of the Cuban Revolution, Alina grew increasingly disillusioned with the government her father built and the restrictions it imposed on the Cuban people. In 1993, she fled Cuba disguised as a Spanish tourist and eventually settled in the United States, where she became an advocate for freedom and human rights. An author, radio personality, and public speaker, Alina chronicled her extraordinary upbringing and complicated relationship with her father in her memoir, Castro’s Daughter: An Exile’s Memoir of Cuba. Through her personal story, she offers a rare perspective on life inside Cuba’s ruling family, the consequences of communism, and the courage it takes to choose freedom over privilege.

Taste of Traditions

Discover the recipes inspired by the dishes that celebrate our guests’ cultures, traditions, and favorite flavors.

For Alina Fernández Revuelta, sometimes the simplest meals hold the most meaningful memories. Growing up in communist Cuba, where food was often scarce, Alina recalls one of her favorite childhood meals: arroz blanco con huevos fritos y un plátano manzano—white rice, fried eggs, and a small, sweet banana. Made with just a few basic ingredients, this humble Cuban dish reminds her of a childhood when families learned to make the most of what little they had. A simple meal that tells a much bigger story about life in Cuba.
