An Evolving Landscape: Latinos and the Road to 2024

Latinos and 2024 elections - The LIBRE Initiative

September 23, 2023

The LIBRE InstitutePublic Opinion Strategies survey commissioned by The LIBRE Institute painted a dismal picture of their perception of Bidenomics, highlighted by pessimism about the direction of the country, concerns about the economy, and a profound worry about the decline of the American Dream.

Below are some of the topline takeaways from the poll.

HISPANICS ARE PESSIMISTIC ABOUT THE DIRECTION OF THE COUNTRY

Contrary to the narratives from the Biden Administration, LIBRE’s survey reveals Hispanics are not optimistic about the trajectory of the country under Bidenomics. A mere 29% of Hispanic voters believe the country is headed in the right direction, while 71% feel it is on the wrong track. A majority of Hispanics disapprove of the job Joe Biden is doing as President. The President is under water with Independent Hispanics by 28 points.

HISPANIC VOTERS DON’T BELIEVE THE ECONOMY IS WORKING FOR THEM

Overall pessimism among Hispanics is driven largely by a negative view on the economy. Only 21% of Hispanics rate the economy as excellent or good, while 79% categorize it as fair or poor. By a two to one margin, Hispanics say the economy will only get worse in the next year.

INFLATION TAKES CENTER STAGE IN HISPANIC HOUSEHOLDS

The most pressing issue for Hispanic voters is inflation, followed closely by concerns about the economy and jobs. This aligns with the general pessimism regarding economic matters. Notably, 84% of Hispanics agree inflation has adversely impacted their quality of life, with 52% strongly agreeing. This sentiment cuts across party lines, with 91% of Republicans, 88% of Independents, and 79% of Democrats expressing agreement. The personal impact of inflation resonates deeply with Hispanic voters, underlining its significance as a key issue.

HISPANIC VOTERS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT LIMITED OPPORTUNITIES

An overwhelming 80% of Hispanic voters agreed with this statement, and 50% of Hispanics strongly agreed with the following statement: I’m concerned that America is declining, and my children won’t have the opportunities I had hoped they would.

Hispanic voters share the same concern as other Americans; the country and the American Dream is becoming harder to realize. Through our grassroots outreach, LIBRE sees this prevailing worry creating a sense of urgency within the Hispanic community to change the trajectory of the country.

The pathway to economic prosperity is paved by increasing access to work, respecting worker freedom and choice, cutting burdensome regulations, and fixing our broken budget process.
As the leading voice for Hispanics advocating for freedom, LIBRE believes it is imperative for policymakers and leaders to address the very real concerns of our community and work towards building a more hopeful and prosperous future for all Americans.
