Here’s how to lower prices for Latino families
March 25, 2026
For many Latinos, the economy feels a bit … muddled. It’s getting better, but life isn’t more affordable.
Inflation has cooled down, the economy is no longer stagnant, wages are rising, and the Working Families Tax Cuts are helping millions of Latinos keep more of what they earn.
But whenever we pay our rent, groceries, gas, and utility bills, our paycheck still doesn’t seem to stretch far enough.
This needs to change. Latinos don’t work long hours just to live paycheck to paycheck.
Fortunately, there’s a way out of this affordability crisis.
Americans are feeling the strain of years of unchecked government mandates and regulatory overreach.
But we can change this. Now is the moment to clean up the mess left by decades of big-government regulations — from energy to housing — that have made all our lives much more expensive.
Big government, big bills
Every time the government tries to solve a problem, it ends up creating more. Over the last 30 years, Washington bureaucrats have created a lot of problems that are making our lives much more expensive.
Here’s how:
- Energy: Permits for new electrical infrastructure take years to approve — and while Washington drags its feet, your electricity bill has climbed 21% since 2020 and is projected to keep rising.
- Housing: Regulations limit how many homes can be built, which means higher prices and a tougher road for those who want to be homeowners.
- Health care: 90 cents of every dollar spent on health care goes to insurers or government programs before it reaches a patient. As a result, our premiums have skyrocketed.
- Groceries: Red tape in energy, transportation, labor, and many other industries stacks up and makes your grocery bill more costly than it should be.
All of these roadblocks show up in your bills, and it’s time to remove them.

A big first step: No new taxes
Congress has already taken a bold step to make life more affordable by passing the Working Families Tax Cuts.
Here’s what this bill did for Latino families:
- The Working Families Tax Cuts saved at least 75% of Latino households from a massive tax hike
- The average filer saves about $3,700 in tax relief
- Workers’ wages are projected to grow by nearly $7,000 over time
However, there’s still much to do.
We need to simplify a tax code cluttered with complicated rules so that families have more direct control over their own money.
Energy: The not-so-hidden cost
When energy prices go up, it’s not only your utility bill that goes up, but almost everything else rises with it: groceries, rent, commutes, and utility bills.

Here’s what’s driving higher energy prices:
- Permits for new power lines take 4+ years on average — and up to 11 years before construction begins
- Electricity prices have jumped 21% since 2020 — not because you’re using more, but because the government made it more expensive to produce
The fix: Streamline permitting, remove red tape blocking new energy infrastructure, and let supply meet demand.
Cut the middlemen from our health care
Seven out of 10 Americans think the health care system is broken, and they’re right on the money. Here’s why:
- 90 cents of every health care dollar flows through insurers or government programs, not patients
- Premiums have tripled under the Affordable Care Act
- Out-of-pocket spending keeps rising

Sending more money to insurers and government bureaucrats isn’t going to make health care more affordable.
Real reform means cutting the middlemen and giving patients the freedom to choose their own health care.
Policies such as expanding health savings accounts and promoting direct primary care will go a long way toward bringing down health care prices.
The home you’ve been working toward
For Latino families, homeownership is a key to their American Dream. But the government has made it harder to get there:
- Housing prices jumped nearly 40% in recent years
- Zoning restrictions and federal mandates artificially limit how many homes can be built
- This artificial scarcity drives up prices and keeps many Americans locked out of their American Dream

The way out of this crisis is simple: Build more houses.
Congress can help us get there by removing the regulatory barriers blocking construction and letting the market build.
LIBRE is fighting for you
Latino families play by the rules. They work hard, budget carefully, and invest in the future. The natural result should be prosperity, not endless setbacks.
Because of this, The LIBRE Initiative and Americans for Prosperity are pushing an Affordability Agenda with one goal: to keep more money in your pocket.
- Cheaper energy.
- Health care you control.
- More homes at prices families can afford.
- A tax code that works for you, not against you.
The affordability crisis was created by regulation, mandate by mandate. It’s in our power to dismantle it and make sure the American Dream is affordable for all Americans.
