LIBRE Applauds the House Ways & Means and Energy & Commerce Committees for Advancing Pro-Growth Tax Legislation
May 13, 2025
Arlington, VA (5/13/25)— The LIBRE Initiative, the largest center-right Latino organization, applauds the House Ways and Means Committee for advancing a legislative package that would extend the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts to working families, to support small business growth, protect our health care systems from becoming insolvent, and promote economic opportunity — priorities that matter deeply to the Latino community.
Latinos are one of the fastest-growing segment of entrepreneurs in the United States and are strongly represented in the workforce, especially in small businesses. As inflation, the cost of health care, and the cost of living continue to strain household budgets, policies that extend the 2017 tax relief and expand opportunity are more important than ever.
Sandra Benitez, Executive Director, The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:
“We commend the House Ways and Means Committee along with the Energy and Commerce Committee for taking meaningful action to preserve a low-tax, pro-growth environment that reflects the priorities of hardworking Americans—including the Latino community. Latino entrepreneurs and workers are driving job creation, innovation, and local economic growth. Policies that protect low taxes and strengthen the small business ecosystem are essential to keeping opportunity within reach for those who are building, hiring, and contributing every day.
Beyond this committee efforts to clamp down on burdensome Biden-era health care rules and reign in fraud, waste, and abuse are crucial to driving down health care costs. By prioritizing policies that reward hard work and innovation and drive down costs, lawmakers can ensure that Latino workers, families, and small business owners can continue to thrive. We look forward to working with lawmakers to ensure that the extension of the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts makes it to the president’s desk.”

Background:
Earlier this year, LIBRE announced a seven-figure campaign titled: Protecting Prosperity urging lawmakers to extend tax relief for middle-class families. The campaign also includes the launch of www.protectingprosperity.com where activist and volunteers can take action in favor of extending TCJA. This campaign, released in advance of the looming expiration, shows overwhelming consensus among Latino voters that now is not the time to raise taxes.
Polling shows that Latinos across party lines view the expiration of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act — which reduced taxes among other benefits—as a tax hike that would hurt middle-class families, consumers, small businesses, and the economy.
The campaign includes digital ads, grassroots events, and congressional accountability efforts to ensure that the new Congress will extend tax relief for middle-class families – including millions of Latino families who have expressed opposition to tax hikes.
