LIBRE Commends Passage of House Budget Resolution

¿No quieres impuestos más altos? No dejes que la TCJA expire

February 27, 2025

Arlington, VA – The LIBRE Initiative, the nation’s leading center-right Latino grassroots organization, applauds Speaker Mike Johnson and the House of Representatives for approving the budget resolution, a key step toward extending the tax cuts established in the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act.

Sandra Benítez, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Yesterday, the House of Representatives took an important step toward preventing a tax hike on millions of hardworking families by approving the House budget resolution. This move allows the process to continue, ensuring that the tax cuts implemented in the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act do not expire. At a time when Latino families continue to work toward the American Dream, extending these tax cuts is crucial to fostering financial stability and continued economic growth. We applaud Speaker Johnson and House lawmakers for their vote and urge lawmakers to keep this momentum going.”

Background:
Earlier this year, LIBRE  announced a seven-figure campaign titled: Protecting Prosperity urging lawmakers to extend tax relief for middle-class families. The campaign also includes the launch of www.protectingprosperity.com where activist and volunteers can take action in favor of extensinf TCJA.

This campaign, released in advance of the looming expiration, shows overwhelming consensus among Latino voters that now is not the time to raise taxes.

Polling shows that Latinos across party lines view the expiration of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act — which reduced taxes among other benefits—as a tax hike that would hurt middle-class families, consumers, small businesses, and the economy.

The campaign includes digital ads, grassroots events, and congressional accountability efforts to ensure that the new Congress will extend tax relief for middle-class families – including millions of Latino families who have expressed opposition to tax hikes.
