The LIBRE Initiative-FL Applauds House and Chair Latvala for passing Schools of Hope Bill

(Tallahassee, FL) – The LIBRE Initiative applauds the Florida House of Representatives for passing HB 5105, a measure related to creating Schools of Hope, that would empower students to receive the best education possible.

The LIBRE Initiative’s Coalitions Director, Cesar Grajales issued the following statement:

“The Schools of Hope legislation gives students across the state a new hope for receiving a better education. We believe that when you empower students and their parents with increased options our community is better equipped to reach the American Dream. We applaud Chairman Chris Latvala and Chairman Manny Diaz for their leadership on this important issue. We hope that the Florida Senate will quickly take similar steps to remove unnecessary barriers to opening more successful charter schools so that our students don’t have to remain stuck in failure factories.”

Background:
HB 5105 provides a plan to draw new charter school operators into academically struggling parts of Florida. The bill would accelerate the timetable for school districts to turn around schools that persistently struggle and creates a pathway for top performing charter school operators across the country to come into Florida. HB 5105 would make it easier for those operators with proven success to start operating in the vicinity of struggling schools.
