A new era: Latino voters demand prosperity and liberty
November 22, 2024
Election Day proved that Latinos are undergoing a once-in-a-generation shift.
On November 5, millions of Latinos voted against bad economic policies and for economic freedom and prosperity. In one night, they destroyed a long-held assumption about American politics: that Latinos were always going to vote the same way.
As LIBRE president and founder Daniel Garza recently said in a National Review op-ed:
“In 2024, Latinos — being one of the youngest and fastest-growing demographic groups — chose to turn the page from broken promises and economic malaise to a fresh start and pro-growth economic policies.”
Some pundits, analysts, and politicians might be surprised by this result.
We weren’t.
LIBRE was founded on the idea that Latinos are ready to become stalwart defenders of economic freedom; they only needed to hear the message.
Latinos proved us right.
Latino strongholds voted for economic freedom.
While it will take some weeks to precisely know how much Latinos shifted in this election, we have enough numbers to show that Hispanics, like most Americans, voted against the failed economic policies of the last four years.
In Latino strongholds like South Texas and Miami-Dade County in Florida, Latinos voted decisively for candidates who support economic freedom. Compared to the 2018 Senate elections, voters in Texas’ Starr County and sunny Miami shifted over 50 and 30 points, respectively, toward candidates supporting sound policies.
Who played a crucial role in turning this political shift into a reality in key Senate races across the country?
The LIBRE Initiative Action.
In key races, LIBRE Action, a separate but aligned political organization, harnessed Latino energy and organized formidable operations on the ground to deliver historic wins for freedom across America.
In Ohio and Pennsylvania, LIBRE Action and Latino voters propelled Bernie Moreno and Dave McCormick to beat strong incumbents Sherrod Brown and Bob Casey, respectively. In fact, exit polls indicate almost half of Ohio Latinos voted for Moreno, and nearly four in every 10 Pennsylvania Latinos voted for McCormick in this election.
Specifically in Pennsylvania, the early numbers show that Latinos in key places like Allentown and Bethlehem voted for change and played a pivotal role in getting McCormick across the line.
LIBRE Action launched a massive grassroots blitz to ensure this monumental change became a reality.
For months, their team of dedicated activists transformed the energy they felt on the ground into a formidable campaign that reached thousands of Latinos in the most competitive races where the fate of good policy was at stake.
Now is the time to deliver freedom and prosperity.
This historic shift has been years in the making.
Since 2011, The LIBRE Initiative has effectively delivered a pro-freedom message to the Latino community.
How did we do it?
We created the nation’s largest Latino grassroots organization centered on defending the principles of economic freedom. We knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors, held thousands of events, and talked to millions of Latinos to show how less government would bring more prosperity to them and their families.
This is just the beginning — the real policy work starts now.
If politicians want to win the Latino vote, they must remember: Latinos voted for solutions, not political parties.
They voted for change; now it’s time to deliver.
Americans need a government focused on expanding economic opportunity, removing burdensome regulations, and making the American Dream affordable.
That’s why we at The LIBRE Initiative won’t rest on our laurels.
We’ll work hard pushing for policies that expand economic opportunity, make health care affordable, and give families the freedom to choose the education their children need.
The election confirmed that Latinos believe in good policy. Now, it’s time to ensure those policies are enacted.
There’s a lot of work ahead of us, and we’ll need people like you to help us turn good ideas into reality.
Let’s get started!
