Latino and Hispanic Workers Urge Lawmakers to Oppose HB26-1005 Ahead of Key Vote

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee Unanimously Advances Legislation to Expand Physician Licensing

February 5, 2026

Denver, CO (2/5/25) – The LIBRE Initiative, the nation’s largest center-right Latino organization, prepares to vote on HB26-1005 today, thousands of Colorado workers including many from Latino communities are urging lawmakers to reject the bill, warning it would roll back decades of worker protections and harm both families and small businesses.

HB26-1005 would repeal Colorado’s Labor Peace Act, dismantling safeguards that have protected workers’ constitutional right to freedom of association for nearly 80 years. These protections have been especially critical in industries where Latino and Hispanic workers are heavily represented.

“Repealing the Labor Peace Act would strip workers of fundamental protections and undermine their ability to choose whether or not to associate with a union. This bill doesn’t empower workers it exposes them to greater risk while increasing costs for small businesses and consumers.” – Angel Merlos, Colorado Strategic Director.

Opponents of HB26-1005 also warn the measure could disproportionately impact low-income families by raising prices and increasing economic uncertainty. By removing protections for workers who choose not to join a union or pay union dues, the bill would further destabilize Colorado’s workforce and economy.

Advocates are calling on lawmakers to vote NO on HB26-1005 and stand up for the rights, freedoms, and economic stability of all Colorado workers.
