Once Government Reopens, It’s Time for Border/Dreamer Deal

(Arlington, VA) – Today the president announced an agreement regarding the ongoing partial government shutdown.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“We’re encouraged that a short-term agreement on government funding promises to open government operations and create an opportunity for lawmakers to work together with the president on a long-term funding agreement. With a short three-week window, it is important for lawmakers to focus on a narrow solution that has broad support – pairing border funding with permanent protection for Dreamers. We believe the way forward is clear and there is no reason why the country should face another shutdown in three weeks over this. Pairing these two priorities and avoiding other controversial and unnecessary provisions can earn bipartisan votes and be signed into law – if lawmakers set aside their partisan fights. We stand ready to work with leaders on both sides of the aisle to get this done.”
