What’s top of mind for Latinos? The economy and taxes, poll says

May 14, 2025

It’s the economy…

That’s the drumbeat coming from the Latino community, according to the most recent in-depth poll from our sister organization The LIBRE Institute.

Latinos are looking for policies that will help them recover from years of disastrous economic policies of the Biden Administration that led to sluggish economic growth and sky-high inflation.

The poll also revealed something else: Latinos are worried about what would happen to their already-stretched family budgets if Congress lets the 2017 Trump tax cuts expire.

These results shouldn’t come as a shock.

Latinos contribute over $3.6 trillion every year to the American economy and are opening small businesses at a faster rate than any other group. They know firsthand how overregulation and high taxes can wreak havoc on the livelihoods of hardworking families.

And according to the poll, there’s growing momentum across the Latino community in support for economic freedom, and common sense policies that will unleash American prosperity.

FOR LATINOS, THE ECONOMY IS FRONT AND CENTER

For Latinos across America, the economy is, by far, the most important issue.

According to the poll:

  • More than half of Latinos think the economy or inflation is the biggest concern in today’s America.
  • Almost two-in-three Latinos expect the economy to get worse.
  • Most Latinos are worried the economy isn’t going to improve in the next year.

Latinos are focused on the economy — and are also worried about what could happen if Congress doesn’t renew the 2017 Trump tax cuts. For the vast majority of Latinos, paying more taxes to Washington is a non-starter:

  • More than 9 in 10 Latinos say they would be concerned if their taxes were up.
  • A whopping 65% of Latinos would be very concerned if their taxes went up.
  • Three-quarters of all Latinos think they’re already paying too much of their money in taxes.

Latinos are crystal clear on what they want: Get prices down and keep more money in their pockets.

The good news? They’re rallying behind common-sense policies that can undo years of economic strain and help build lasting prosperity for their families and for the country.

LATINOS AND FREE MARKETS, A PERFECT MATCH

Latinos are living through a once-in-a-generation political shift. They’re no longer falling for the siren song of top-down economic policies as the solution for America’s problems.

This momentum is growing — economic freedom and common-sense policies are winning ideas in the Latino community. Here’s what the numbers show:

  • An overwhelming 91% of Latinos think property rights, free speech, and other individual freedoms play a crucial role in making America prosperous.
  • Almost 8-in-10 Latinos think the free market is the best way to create an economy that benefits all Americans.
  • When it comes to energy, 8 in 10 Americans (Latinos included) say we need to boost U.S. energy production to build a stronger economy.

Latinos aren’t just open to these ideas — they’re on board.

The LIBRE Initiative is making a real difference in the Latino community.

For over 14 years, we’ve championed freedom-focused policies — fighting for lower taxes, educational freedom, and more affordable, accessible health care.
