She’s living the American Dream. Now she’s fighting to protect it
April 22, 2026
Sandra Benítez grew up in Inwood, New York — a working-class neighborhood in Uptown Manhattan where poverty was real, crime was close, and dreaming big felt out of reach.
But her family was different. They didn’t settle — they believed in building their American Dream.
Her grandmother immigrated from El Salvador, and her mother raised two children as a single parent. They believed in three things: faith, hard work, and education.
Sandra learned early on that hard work was the foundation for building a better life.
As she grew up, she was drawn into something she never expected: politics.
She worked on a campaign in New Jersey and went on to serve with the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Republican National Committee, and even a presidential campaign.
Today, she leads one of America’s largest Latino grassroots organizations dedicated to protecting freedom: The LIBRE Initiative.

An all-Latino, all-American story
Sandra’s story didn’t happen by chance.
It happened because of what this country was built on: freedom, opportunity, and the belief that where you start doesn’t have to define where you end up.
Those are the principles that made it possible for a girl from Inwood, the granddaughter of a Salvadoran immigrant who cleaned houses, to become the leader of a national movement.
It’s thanks to foundational ideas like limited government, the rule of law, and economic liberty that millions of Latinos have built their American Dream.
These are the same principles that fueled America’s founding in 1776 — and the ideas LIBRE works to protect every day.
Protecting America’s freedoms
Since its founding 15 years ago, LIBRE has knocked on millions of doors, hosted thousands of community events, and stood alongside Latino families on issues that matter most: the cost of living, health care, education, and the economy.
Sandra has been part of that work from the ground up. She started at LIBRE as a grassroots engagement director, going door to door in Virginia Beach, listening to families and building real connections.
That’s what sets LIBRE apart: building real relationships with Latino communities by listening first — not telling them what to think.
Few organizations are doing this work at this scale. And it has never been more important.
Latinos are on the front lines of the fight for freedom
Today, 1 in 4 Americans under 18 is Latino.
The math is clear: Latinos will play a key role in America for generations to come.
At LIBRE, we know Latinos are ready to stand on the front lines defending the American Dream — because they always have.
That’s where you come in.
Getting involved doesn’t have to be a big, dramatic moment. It just takes one small step, un pasito, with LIBRE.
