Hispanic Voters Sound the Alarm: Economic, Immigration, and Education Concerns Highlighted in New Poll

September 6, 2024

The 2024 LIBRE Institute Poll provides an insightful look at the concerns of Hispanic voters, focusing on three main areas: the economy, immigration, and education. The results show that most Hispanics are worried about inflation and rising costs, with 85% saying it’s making life harder. Nearly half feel their financial situation has gotten worse in the past four years. People are concerned that government spending is out of control and that the economy isn’t improving fast enough. Many are unsure if they’ll be able to retire comfortably, and a significant number (81%) are worried that Social Security may not be available when they need it.

On immigration, Hispanic voters see a broken system. While many support legal immigration pathways, they’re also worried about border security. Seventy-three percent agree that the southern border situation is causing problems for the country, and most think we need more resources for border patrol agents to manage the influx of illegal crossings. At the same time, 87% of respondents support creating more legal pathways for immigrants, showing that the community wants a balanced approach to immigration reform.

Education is another major concern, with 74% of Hispanic voters supporting school choice, which would allow funding to follow students to better educational opportunities, whether in public, private, or charter schools. Many feel that the current public education system is failing their children, and there’s a strong desire for more emphasis on core subjects like reading and math, as well as technical education that prepares students for good-paying jobs.

Despite these challenges, 71% of Hispanics still believe in the American Dream, although 88% say it’s harder to achieve than in the past. There is also concern that future generations will face fewer opportunities, with 82% saying their children may not have the same chances to succeed.

In summary, the poll highlights the urgent need for policy changes that address the economic difficulties, improve the immigration system, and enhance education options for Hispanic families. The LIBRE Institute educates and empowers individuals to create better opportunities for Latinos Americans, as they are facing growing uncertainty while striving to achieve their American Dream. Through meaningful changes, policymakers can help ensure a brighter future for everyone, building a country where hard work and opportunity continue to be rewarded.
