LIBRE Applauds Governor Polis for Vetoing HB26-1005

June 2, 2026

The LIBRE Initiative applauds Governor Jared Polis for keeping his commitment and vetoing HB26-1005 on Friday. The legislation would have undermined worker freedom, increased costs for Colorado businesses, and created greater economic uncertainty at a time when many families are already facing affordability challenges.

HB26-1005 raised significant concerns among workers, employers, and advocates for economic freedom due to its far-reaching economic implications.

If enacted, the bill would have repealed key provisions of Colorado’s Labor Peace Act, weakened important worker protections and limiting employees’ ability to exercise their rights in the workplace. Opponents argued that the legislation would have made Colorado less competitive for job creators, increased operational costs for businesses, and ultimately driven up costs for families already struggling with inflation and the rising cost of living.

Hispanic families and small business owners, many of whom work in industries particularly vulnerable to economic uncertainty, could have been disproportionately impacted by the legislation.

The LIBRE Initiative remains committed to advancing policies that promote economic opportunity, protect workers’ freedom, and help all Coloradans achieve greater prosperity.

LIBRE-Colorado Strategic Director Angel Merlos issued the following statement:

“We thank Governor Polis for vetoing HB26-1005 and protecting workers’ freedom in Colorado. Hispanic workers, families, and small business owners deserve policies that expand opportunity not create new barriers to economic success. By rejecting this legislation, the Governor helped preserve worker’s choice, support job creation, and keep Colorado a competitive place to work, invest, and build a business.”
