LIBRE Calls on Congress to End Costly Shutdown, Pass Clean CR
Arlington, VA – The LIBRE Initiative — the nation’s largest center-right Latino organization — today expressed disappointment over the federal government shutdown.
A shutdown not only disrupts essential services but it also undermines trust in Congress and drives wasteful last-minute budget deals that put politics ahead of people.
Sandra Benitez, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, issued the following statement:
“A government shutdown is a clear failure and disappointment. Instead of focusing on growing the economy, reducing waste, and ensuring stability for hardworking families, Washington Democrats have once again allowed brinkmanship to get in the way of real solutions.
Hispanic families — like all Americans — deserve better than the uncertainty and disruption caused by shutdowns. We urge Democrats to come together with Republicans and pass a clean Continuing Resolution to reopen the government and get back to the real work of strengthening our economy and creating opportunity.
This cannot be the norm. Congress must end this cycle of governing by crisis and deliver responsible solutions that keep the government open, reduce waste, and prioritize prosperity for every community.”
