Latino voters believe in the spirit of 1776
July 3, 2025
Fireworks light up the night sky. Burgers and hot dogs are on the grill. Kids wave American flags, and parades roll down Main Street. It’s the Fourth of July.
But before you start up that grill or light up some fireworks, take a moment to think about what happened almost 250 years ago in Philadelphia — when a group of brave men dared to defy the most powerful empire of its time and risk their lives in service of one idea: Liberty.
A lot has changed since Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Our technology, society, economy, lives, and challenges are much different than those in early America.
So here’s the question:
Do Americans still believe in the same principles our Founding Fathers did all those years ago?
A recent poll from The LIBRE Institute gives us the answer.
Latino voters overwhelmingly embrace the same values that sparked the American Revolution 250 years ago.
OUR LOVE FOR FREEDOM: SAME AS IN 1776
Freedom from government overreach and individual freedoms were two key premises that inspired the American Revolution.
Americans rebelled against an intrusive king who imposed punishing taxes and tried to dictate to the people what they should do without respecting their rights. They wanted a government that treated them as citizens, not subjects.
Flash forward 250 years into the present, and the polling shows Latinos staunchly believe in those same ideas:
- 9 in 10 Latino voters believe individual freedoms have helped make the U.S. a prosperous country
- More than 70% of Latino voters think limiting the role of government creates more opportunities for people to succeed
- More than 9 in 10 Latinos think applying laws equally would increase economic opportunity and stability in America
This consensus goes beyond party lines. Republicans, Democrats, and independents all agree — by wide margins — that getting government out of the way is the best recipe for prosperity.
DEFENDING LIBERTY FOR GENERATIONS TO COME
They’re right to believe that.
America has succeeded because we’re true believers in freedom. We’ve always been a country that has bet on ourselves — and won.
In 1776, no one would’ve bet this disparate group of rebellious colonies would defeat Britain.
No one thought a republic founded upon liberty would ever be successful. But America defied the odds.
A nation like no other was born. One founded not on ethnicity but on three key ideas: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Today, we have the same spirit as our Founding Fathers. Times might have changed, but our belief in freedom remains the same as always.
But freedom is a fragile thing. Every generation needs to work hard and diligently to keep it alive.
That’s exactly what The LIBRE Institute does.
We believe the fundamental principles of America, like limited government, property rights, and the rule of law, are the key to the success of all Americans, including Latinos.
That’s why we push for freedom-oriented policies that will help Latinos (and all Americans) build their American Dream.
