Ohio’s Largest Conservative Latino Grassroots Organization Praises OH Senate for Introducing Flat Tax Proposal
June 6, 2025
(Columbus, Ohio) – Today, The LIBRE Initiative, Ohio’s largest conservative Latino organization, issued a statement in support of the Ohio Senate’s budget proposal, which includes, among several things, measures to enact a flat tax while reining in state spending.
Lair Marin-Marcum, strategic director for The LIBRE Initiative, issued the following statement:
“Ohio’s growing Latino community thrives when there is economic freedom, in the form of lower taxes and fiscal responsibility.
By introducing a flat tax, Ohio State Senators are taking an important step toward making our tax code fairer, simpler, and more predictable. Additionally, Ohio lawmakers are demonstrating that they want to become better stewards of our tax dollars by going after waste, fraud, and special carve-outs for the well-connected.
As recent polling shows, Latinos overwhelmingly oppose higher taxes and care deeply about adding to our debt.
We urge state lawmakers to approve the budget proposal to help grow our state economy for all Ohioans, including our growing Latino community.”

The campaign also includes the launch of www.protectingprosperity.com, where activists and volunteers can take action in favor of extending TCJA. This campaign, released in advance of the looming expiration, shows overwhelming consensus among Latino voters that now is not the time to raise taxes.
The campaign includes digital ads, grassroots events, and congressional accountability efforts to ensure that the new Congress will extend tax relief for middle-class families, including millions of Latino families who have expressed opposition to tax hikes.
