Deputy Communications Director

Israel Ortega is the deputy communications director and a national spokesperson for The LIBRE Initiative. 

Among Israel’s responsibilities include articulating the organization’s perspective to local and national media – as well as overseeing the communications and marketing strategy for several LIBRE states.

Prior to joining LIBRE, Israel worked as a congressional aide, a communications specialist for The Heritage Foundation and an opinion writer for various news outlets including The 74 Million, Opportunity Lives, and The Hill.

Israel is a frequent guest in both English and Spanish language news outlets and has appeared in NBC’s Meet the Press, MSNBC, Fox News Channel and CNN en Espanol.

Israel is a native of Mexico and now lives in Alexandria, VA with his wife, Josie, and three children Mary Tobin (12), Inez (10) and Jack (8). Israel and his family are active members of Incarnation Anglican Church in Arlington, VA as well as Restoration Immigration Legal Aid and Casa Chirilagua – two Northern Virginia non-profits serving the immigrant community.
