The LIBRE Initiative Statement on President Trump’s Rescissions Package

(Arlington, VA)—Today, The LIBRE Initiative, the country’s largest center-right Latino grassroots advocacy group, issued a statement supporting U.S. House legislation, introduced at the White House’s request, targeting approximately $9.4 billion in reduced federal spending.

Sandra Benitez, executive director of The LIBRE Initiative, issued the following statement:

“In order to continue growing our economy, Washington lawmakers must rein in federal spending while supporting pro-growth legislation. The rescissions package, before the U.S. House, is a good first step toward reducing unnecessary and excessive government spending.

Latinos, like all Americans, expect our elected officials to be good stewards of our tax dollars and exercise the same type of fiscal restraint that many families are having to make across the country.

As recent polling makes clear, Latinos care about the negative impact of adding to the national debt and are concerned about the possibility of higher taxes to pay for uncontrolled federal spending.

This vote is an important first step in reining in out-of-control federal spending and pursuing greater efficiencies with hardworking taxpayer dollars.”
