The LIBRE Initiative, a national Latino organization committed to empowering the Latino community, issued a statement praising the introduction of the Comprehensive Congressional Budget Act of 2024 to address the nation’s debt crisis.
The bipartisan bill introduced by Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) and Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) would require Washington lawmakers to produce a budget with all spending and revenue in one annual bill.
Isabel Soto, Policy Director for The LIBRE Initiative, issued the following statement in support of the legislation:
“It’s clear that we need Washington lawmakers to stop governing crisis to crisis to get our financial house in order. Thankfully, Representatives Blake Moore and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez are doing just that by working across party lines to require Congress to create an actual budget and begin the hard work of reining in wasteful spending.
Every single American would benefit from this legislation, including the Latino community, who are deeply concerned about the direction of our economy and country. Latinos are not looking for excuses from Washington, they are looking for leadership from both political parties.
We urge Congress to enact this bipartisan legislation to fix our broken system. Real reform starts with a real budget, one that includes all spending and all revenue in one package. Regularly reviewing, reassessing, and evaluating such a budget promotes responsible spending and keeps legislators involved and engaged in the process rather than shutting them out the way our current system does.”
