LIBRE Supports Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act to Address Workforce Needs and Strengthen Hispanic Communities

Arlington, VA (9/23/25) – The LIBRE Initiative, the nation’s largest center-right Latino organization, today announced its support for HR 5494, the Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act, introduced by Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-14), along with nine co-sponsors.  

This legislation creates a new visa program to address labor shortages in industries not covered by existing H-2A or H-2B visa programs, including hospitality, construction, and health care sectors which play a critical role in America’s economic growth. 

Daniel Garza, president of The LIBRE Initiative, issued the following statement: 

“The Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act is a meaningful step toward a more modern and functional immigration system one that address the damaging labor gaps that many U.S. industries face. . This bill will help address real workforce needs while giving workers and families opportunities to thrive, build better lives, and strengthen our economy.” 

The LIBRE Initiative additionally applauds co-sponsors: Representatives Donald Davis, Maria Elvira Salarzar, Juan Ciscomani, Andy Harris, Thomas Suozzi, Mike Kelly, Richard McComrmick, Mark Amodei, Henry Cuellar for their support of this bipartisan common-sense bill.
