The principles that built America—and us

From the very beginning, Latinos stood alongside others to secure independence. Those principles shaped a nation where people can dream, work, and build a better future. Explore how they still guide our lives today — and keep the American Dream alive for all of us.

Every person matters:

Your value does not come from a job title, a government program, or someone else’s approval. It comes from God. In America, no one gets to decide who matters and who doesn’t.

Why it matters to Latinos today:

Latino families understand what it means to work hard, raise children with strong values, and rely on faith to guide our lives. America’s founders affirmed a timeless truth: dignity comes from God, not from government. No politician can give it or take it away.

What you can do:

Defend policies that respect individual worth, protect religious freedom, and treat people as capable—not victims in need of government control.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…”
 — Declaration of Independence (1776)

Power Belongs to the People:

Freedom means you get to make decisions for your family, your faith, and your future. The government works for the people—not the other way around.

Why It Matters to Latinos Today:

Too many in our community know what it’s like to live under bureaucrats, political strongmen, or corrupt regimes. America rejects that model. Here, citizens—not government—decide how we live, speak, work, and worship. That is the cornerstone of a free society.

What you can do:

America was founded on limited government and individual liberty. When those principles are threatened, citizens must respond. Hold government accountable. Support leaders who put families first. Speak up.

“…that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…  that to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” — Declaration of Independence (1776)

The American Dream Belongs to Everyone:

Opportunity means having the freedom to work hard and move forward. When the rules are fair and the government steps back, families can build a better life.

Why it matters to Latinos today:

Latinos are proof that the American Dream still works. We start businesses at record rates, strengthen our churches and neighborhoods, and build a better future for our children. Opportunity thrives when government gets out of the way and lets people rise through hard work and determination.

What you can do:

Champion policies that lower barriers—fewer regulations, more school choice, more freedom to work, save, and invest. Protect the pathways that helped our families move forward.

“…that among these [rights] are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of

Happiness.” — Declaration of Independence (1776)

Justice for All:

The law should protect everyone equally. When rules are enforced fairly, families are safer, communities are stronger, and no one is above the law.

Why it matters to Latinos today:

Safety and fairness are essential to a free society. The rule of law protects every person from crime, corruption, and government abuse by being applied equally and consistently. Justice must be blind, rooted in truth, and enforced without favoritism.

What you can do:

Support strong, fair enforcement of the law. Demand accountability, transparency, and a justice system that protects law-abiding families—not criminals or political insiders.

“No State shall… deny to any person… the equal protection of the laws.”
— 14th Amendment, Section 1 (1868)

Power with Purpose:

Strong communities don’t need heavy-handed government. A limited government allows neighbors, churches, entrepreneurs, and local organizations to lead.

Why it matters to Latinos today:

Many Latino families fled countries where government grew too big, too controlling, and too corrupt. The founders understood this danger and built a system that limits government to preserve freedom. Strong families and strong communities—not distant bureaucrats—drive real progress.

What you can do:

Stand for policies that shrink government overreach and return power to families, parents, entrepreneurs, and local communities.

“The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined.” — James Madison, Federalist No. 45

Freedom Requires You:

Freedom only lasts when people show up. When citizens vote, speak out, and get involved, they protect the future for their children.

Why it matters to Latinos today:

Freedom is not automatic. It survives only when citizens are informed, engaged, and willing to defend it. The Latino community is one of America’s greatest forces for renewal—faith-driven, family-oriented, and committed to the next generation.

What you can do:

Be the kind of Citizen the founders counted on to keep the Republic strong. Join LIBRE and the next step- organize events, connect with your local representativos, empower your community, and so much more! Ready to make a difference in your state?
