LIBRE Statement on House Passage of Clean Continuing Resolution

Government Reopens — But Americans Deserve Better Than Shutdown Politics

November 12, 2025

(Arlington, VA) — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) to fully reopen the federal government and send the measure to the president’s desk for signature.

The LIBRE Initiative—the nation’s largest center-right Latino organization—issued the following statement from Executive Director Sandra Benitez:

“We welcome the House’s passage of a clean Continuing Resolution that will finally reopen the federal government and provide much-needed relief to Americans who have been caught in the middle of a political standoff. House Republicans did the right think over a month ago to keep our government running.

This shutdown was entirely avoidable. Democrats chose political theater over governing, ignoring opportunities to keep the government open and protect critical services that millions of families rely on. Their refusal to act responsibly caused real harm to working Americans, small businesses, and communities across the country.

While we’re encouraged to see Congress taking this step to restore normal operations, lawmakers must ensure this never happens again. Passing the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act would end these crises once and for all — allowing Congress to focus on real priorities like growing our economy, reducing wasteful spending, and creating opportunity for every American, including the Hispanic community that continues to power our nation’s prosperity.”
