Families, Not the Federal Government, Should Decide How Children Learn

Families, Not the Federal Government, Should Decide How Children Learn

January 28, 2026

Arlington, VA – As National School Choice Week (NSCW) is celebrated nationwide, The LIBRE Initative, the largest center right organization, is calling on states across all LIBRE chapters to put families and students at the center of educations decisions by empowering them with educational options like: education savings accounts, open enrollment, tax credit scholarships, and vouchers.

LIBRE believes education should meet the needs of individual students not a one-size-fits-all federal mandate. Hispanic families are uniquely positioned to understand their children’s talents, goals, and learning styles, and state-led solutions give them the tools to find the best fit.

Why state-led school choice matters:

  • 77 % of Hispanic voters support school choice, with nearly 40% opting for private schools if given the choice;
  • Over 95% of voters want public high schools to offer more technical and career-focused programs;
  • 34 states, Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico offer school choice programs today;
  • More than 1.5 million students nationwide are already participating in school choice.

State-led programs, including education savings accounts, open enrollment, tax credit scholarships, and vouchers empower families and students to make the best decisions for their future. State policymakers must continue expanding these opportunities and resist federal overreach that limits flexibility, innovation, and parental choice.
