(Mission, Texas)—Today, The LIBRE Initiative, the largest center-right Latino organization in the country, hosted a business owners’ roundtable with U.S. Senator John Cornyn on preventing a tax hike on middle-class Americans and job creators.
LIBRE, founded in Mission, Texas, has been educating and mobilizing the Latino community in Texas and nationwide on the need to extend the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts as part of its Protecting Prosperity campaign.
Jorge Martinez, roundtable moderator and LIBRE strategic director, issued the following statement after the event:
“The message from the people and job creators in South Texas is clear: now is not the time to raise taxes!
We thank Senator Cornyn for sitting with Rio Grande Valley business owners to discuss our local community’s most pressing needs.
We look forward to working with Sen. Cornyn and the rest of the Texas delegation to make sure that we extend the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts, which contributed to economic growth and prosperity for all Americans, including Latinos, who saw historically low unemployment rates, increased home ownership, and higher entrepreneurship rates.”

About Protect Prosperity – LIBRE’s campaign on the economy:
Latino families have worked hard to achieve their goals and build better futures.
But some in Washington want to let the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) expire, raising taxes at a time when the cost of living is already sky-high. Protecting prosperity means safeguarding families and small businesses from higher taxes threatening progress and making the American Dream even harder to reach.
Congress must act to protect the progress we’ve made—don’t let the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expire!
