(Austin, Texas) – After the Texas House of Representatives approved TexasSenate Bill 2, legislation that would, among other things, create Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). The LIBRE Initiative issued a statement praising Texas lawmakers for approving this bill.
The LIBRE Initiative, founded in Mission, Texas, is the country’s largest center-right grassroots Latino group. It is a strong proponent of school choice and educational freedom because it believes that parents should decide what kind of education their child should receive.
Jorge Martinez, Texas strategic director, issued the following statement once the Texas House approved SB 2:
“Texas is one step closer to approving the largest ESA and school choice program in the country, and it’s happening because of policy champions like Governor Greg Abbott and TX House Speaker Dustin Burrows, who have prioritized families and children over special interest groups.
When signed into law, ESAs will allow millions of families, including Texan Latino families, to have a greater say on how their education tax dollars are spent to educate their children.
LIBRE is proud to have been a strong champion for school choice since our founding in 2011 in Mission, TX. We look forward to continuing our fight to ensure that every single Texan family can receive an outstanding education.”
