United States Should Maintain Commitment to Protecting Asylees

(Arlington, VA) – The Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security have announced a new rule that would prevent individuals entering the United States illegally from applying to receive asylum.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Unilateral actions that restrict legal immigration avenues only exaggerate the problems with our current system. Enforcing our laws and effectively administering our nation’s immigration policy should not require the United States to step back from its longstanding commitment to accept and review asylum applications. It is critical that Congress and the president come together to address this and the other issues with our immigration system.”
