LIBRE Responds to Criticism From White House
Munoz Op-Ed Attacked Critics of Health Care Law

(Washington, D.C.) – A recent Univision op-ed by White House Domestic Policy Council Director, Cecilia Munoz, criticized ads run in Texas and Florida regarding the Affordable Care Act. The LIBRE Initiative – which has run such ads – responded today through an op-ed by Executive Director Daniel Garza. Below are excerpts from an English translation of the piece, which appeared in El Nuevo Herald:

What they're not telling the public is that many will pay more for coverage. According to Forbes magazine, U.S. Hispanics are 10 years younger than the average age of the population. Nationally, a young Hispanic 27-year-old will see an increase in their quota of 41%, says Forbes. In New Mexico it is estimated that the same young see an increase in their quota of 160%.

In short, the promises of the President and the benefits of the law have not been shown to millions of Latinos currently undergoing dire economic hardships. The promise of $2,500 in savings per household, the promise of increased quality of care, and the false promise that all heard from the mouth of the President to assure every American that if "they were satisfied with their current healthcare plan, they may keep it."

It's urgent to promote a system that puts the patient first, which is based on the free market, and competitiveness, not one that depends on a huge battalion of government bureaucrats.
