As President Prepares for State of the Union, Numbers Don't Lie
Latinos Are Left Behind Due to Broken Promises
(Washington, D.C.) – As the President prepares to deliver his State of the Union address, it is appropriate to consider what his Administration has accomplished in its 5 years in office. For America's Latino community, there are few accomplishments. Hispanic families are being left behind during the economic "recovery," the nation's immigration laws still desperately need reform, and many are suffering the higher premiums and deductibles associated with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare.
Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative released the following statement:
"Tomorrow the President will try to change the subject. After 5 years in office, it's clear that on jobs, the economy, health care, taxes, and more, the policies of this Administration are making things worse. There will be another 'pivot to the economy,' and a list of accomplishments to try to convince the American people – and Latinos in particular – that he's delivered on his promises. But the unemployment rate for Hispanics is well above the average for all Americans, and few families are experiencing the 'recovery' highlighted by the Administration. Latinos are being hit hard by the higher premiums and deductibles under the health care law – as well as the fine for not purchasing insurance. And our immigration laws still need reform.
Working families need change in Washington. The policies of the last few years are making things harder on them. Americans deserve better. It's time for the President to take the lead on an agenda that encourages growth and opportunity by lifting the taxes and regulations that hamper growth. Hopefully that will be a central focus of this Administration in the years ahead."
