PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR DREAMERS MUST BE PRIORITY FOR CONGRESS, WHITE HOUSE

(Washington, D.C.) – Today the president signed an omnibus spending bill that funds the government for the remainder of the fiscal year, without providing protection for the Dreamers.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“We are extremely disappointed that Congress and the president – including leaders in both parties – failed to come together on a plan to provide certainty to the Dreamers and enhanced security for our nation, in the omnibus spending bill. This issue is not going away, and prompt action is needed now more than ever. The Dreamers are students, workers, and men and women in our armed services, and they know no other home than America. While court action is now allowing some Dreamers to renew their legal status, they are unable to plan for the future as long as that limited protection can be taken away at any time. There is no reason to wait for a crisis to fix this problem. Based on the comments of the president and of leaders in Congress, an agreement is within reach. We need them to come together on a permanent solution for the Dreamers and enhanced border security as soon as possible.”
