Omnibus Funding Bill Omits Protection for Dreamers
(Washington, D.C.) – Leaders in Congress and the White House have failed to come to an agreement on legislation to protect the Dreamers as part of an omnibus spending bill being voted on today.
Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:
“We have long said that Congress and the president should come together on a plan that enhances security at the border and provides certainty for the Dreamers, through legislation that offers them permanent status. Sadly, lawmakers missed a critical opportunity to deliver on these reforms in the omnibus that Congress is considering this week. This failure – by all concerned – only makes it more important that Congress and the president act soon. While court action has temporarily allowed some Dreamers to renew their legal status, we still need a durable, long-term solution enacted into law.”
