No Compassion in Obamacare for Millions of Americans

Future of the law now uncertain

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the White House announced that only 106,185 Americans have enrolled in the exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare as of November 2.  Only one quarter of those enrollments came through the disastrous Healthcare.gov website used by 36 states. The rest of the 14 states and Washington DC, signed up via their own system of enrollment. While even the White House expected a low turnout, the sticker shock regarding rate increases has also played a key role in low enrollment numbers. Given warnings regarding narrow provider networks and the risk of identity theft, Americans have had ample reason to avoid purchasing health insurance under this unaffordable law. New poll reveals that for the first time, 52% of American voters say that the President is not honest and trustworthy, and only 19% believe that Obamacare will improve the quality of care they and their families will receive in the next year, 43% say it will get worse.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative released the following statement:

"These lackluster enrollment numbers are not unexpected. For months there were warnings from the Government Accountability Office, industry experts, and senior government officials that this law was not ready to be rolled out. Instead of listening to those warnings, the President and his allies in Congress insisted that the law be fully implemented as scheduled. In light of millions who are losing their insurance and access to their doctors – supporters of the law are now scrambling for political cover. That is not fair to the American people.

The dismal poll numbers also show that Americans are not ignorant to the obvious inability of government bureaucracy to handle people's health. It's time for the President to stop sugarcoating the deficiencies with apologies. This program is in dire crisis. The federal government is simply not capable of effectively managing one-sixth of the economy, and many will pay for this overreach. The President should act now to bring together Republicans and Democrats in an effort to limit the damage and enact positive reforms."
