New Ads by The LIBRE Initiative Encourage Opposition to Cortez Masto

(Washington, D.C.) – The LIBRE Initiative is encouraging voters of Nevada to oppose Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto, who has put special interests ahead of the interests of Hispanic families and students. Cortez Masto recently announced her opposition to the state’s innovative school choice program, which promotes opportunity and a stronger economy by allowing more of Nevada’s children to access a quality education.

These ads note that Cortez Masto failed to support a key education policy to help Nevada families and students:

·       Rejecting efforts to promote school choice and preventing hundreds of thousands of students from accessing better schools.

·       Siding with the special interests funding her campaign, and favoring her political friends instead of Nevada students.

The digital ads will run in both English and Spanish, in key markets. This campaign will also be accompanied by a robust field effort to inform Latinos about Cortez Masto’s failed leadership on issues of importance to the Latino community.

The staff and volunteers of The LIBRE Initiative have worked with Latino families who looked hopefully to the day their kids would be able to take advantage of the state’s groundbreaking new Educational Savings Account (ESA) program, which would have allowed them to switch to better schools, and build brighter futures. These families are disappointed with the special interests that ignore them and have actively sought to prevent these educational reforms, leaving them with little hope. With the ESA plan tied up in court, these families are counting on policymakers to stand up for a better education, and greater economic opportunity.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

The LIBRE Initiative primarily focuses on advancing policies, but sometimes there are certain candidates whose positions are so opposed to The LIBRE Initiative’s policy agenda that we make the decision to expressly call for their defeat. Cortez Masto is one of those candidates. She opposes education solutions that benefit hardworking Latino students and parents. Families across Nevada are eager for an effective leader who will promote the school choice programs that a majority of them support and that provide students with better education opportunities. Cortez Masto is not that leader.”
