The LIBRE Initiative Encourages Lawmakers to Deliver on Real Tax Reform

(Washington, D.C.) – The LIBRE Initiative has joined with other like-minded organizations seeking to promote economic growth, in encouraging leaders in the House and Senate to deliver on the promises of tax reform. These organizations have sent an open letter to members of the House-Senate conference committee on tax reform which encourages lawmakers to adhere to key priorities, including: facilitating a pro-growth tax environment; rejecting any new tax burdens as revenue raisers (such as excise taxes); and, reducing corporate welfare that riddles the tax code. The LIBRE Initiative was joined on the letter by Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, Americans for Prosperity, and Generation Opportunity.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Members of the House and Senate have taken an important first step – passing tax reform bills that include important measures to enhance economic opportunity and encourage wage growth. But while both of these bills include important positive reform elements, there is room for improvement. Lawmakers who are charged with reconciling these bills should focus on measures that simplify taxes for workers and entrepreneurs, make the United States a more attractive climate for business investment, close loopholes that give unfair advantages to special interests, all without creating a new tax burden. This joint letter provides a guide on how to accomplish just that, and we are hopeful Congress will deliver. This is the best way to help workers, families, and businesses.”
