The LIBRE Initiative Bilingual Mailers Applaud Lawmakers for Education Choice Law

(Tallahassee, FL) – Today, The LIBRE Initiative released a group of bilingual mailers to thank members of the Florida Legislature who fought in favor of the new Education Law (HB 7055). Mailers praise the dedicated work of lawmakers for standing with Florida students and families.

Cesar Grajales, Florida Coalitions Director for The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“We applaud the legislators who fought for the best interests of students and families across Florida by supporting the education bill, HB 7055. Now signed into law, this legislation offers families a new lifeline and more options for receiving a better quality education. We believe that when you empower students and their parents with increased options, our community is better equipped to reach the American Dream. A better education has the power to change the trajectory of a student’s life and build stronger communities across the Sunshine State.”

Background:

  • Establishes the Hope Scholarship Program for students who have been subjected to bullying or harassment so that they can attend another public or private school. EdChoice Feedback: “The Hope Scholarship Program further expands choice in Florida to victims of bullying and abuse, regardless of household income. The scholarships not only provide an immediate escape hatch for bullied students, but they also create a strong incentive for schools to speedily and satisfactorily address any bullying problems. The program requires scholarship-accepting schools to have state approval and administer a nationally norm-referenced test to scholarship students, but avoids unnecessary regulations. Hope Scholarships are an important step on the road to universal choice.”
  • Expands the Gardiner Scholarship Program for students with unique abilities
