Lawmakers Should Continue Work on Positive Progress Towards Dreamer Solution
(Washington, D.C.) – Last night, the president delivered the annual State of the Union address.
Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:
“Last night the president reiterated the need for bipartisan compromise on immigration legislation that delivers permanent relief for the Dreamers while enhancing border security. The White House recently took a historic step in laying out a framework for action on this issue – one that would provider permanent protection for 1.8 million Dreamers. The team at The LIBRE Initiative is working with advocates to encourage a bipartisan compromise.
It is critical that both sides continue to work toward a solution that provides certainty and security – welcoming those who want to contribute positively to our society, and no one who would do harm. We are optimistic that if lawmakers continue to negotiate in good faith, Congress will enact landmark legislation.”
