(Arlington, VA) – Last night the president nominated Circuit Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the of Supreme Court of the United States. Kavanaugh currently serves on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, a position to which he was confirmed by a bipartisan Senate vote in 2006. His candidacy will now be considered by the U.S. Senate, and if confirmed, he will replace Justice Anthony Kennedy on the nation’s highest court. Kavanaugh is a graduate of Yale Law School, and a former clerk to Justice Kennedy.

“In Judge Kavanaugh, the president has nominated a candidate with a clear commitment to equal justice under the law, and to interpreting the law as written – rather than seeking to pursue a personal or partisan agenda. He has excellent qualifications for this position and an exemplary record of service – one that has earned him bipartisan respect – and it is my honor to have had the opportunity to work with him during my tenure at the White House. He should be confirmed expeditiously by the Senate.
The grassroots staff and volunteers of The LIBRE Initiative have always engaged with the Hispanic community on the issues that affect our lives on a day to day basis. Cleary that includes confirming restrained, highly-qualified justices to the Supreme Court. In the days and weeks ahead, we look forward to discussing Judge Kavanaugh’s qualifications for the nation’s highest court, and encouraging them to contact their elected officials to share their views.”
