House Republicans Should Lead on Protection for Dreamers

(Washington, D.C.) – Tomorrow Republicans in the House of Representatives are expected to meet to plan a path forward for a floor debate on immigration legislation. It is expected that this will lead to a floor vote in the weeks ahead on several proposals that would provide permanent protections for the Dreamers – young people brought to the United States as children through no fault of their own.

The LIBRE Initiative recently joined with Freedom Partners in announcing an ongoing seven-figure campaign in support of protection for the Dreamers.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Right now Congress has a golden opportunity to lead on issues that are extremely important to the American people. We are hopeful that Members of Congress can come together on a compromise that provides permanent protection to the Dreamers, and provides new funding to enhance border security. This compromise can earn bipartisan support and be signed into law, as long as there is true leadership from both sides with an aim to get this resolved rather than simply playing politics. When parties politicize the issue, Dreamers and the country at large carry the costs of that failure. When Congressional Republicans meet tomorrow to chart a path forward, they need to keep the solution in mind – rather than settling for the same old partisan deadlock.”
