Georgia Educational Freedom Act Would be Transformative for Georgia’s Education System

SB601 would empower and fund families directly

ATLANTA, GA – Today, The LIBRE Initiative, an organization committed to empowering the U.S. Hispanic community, announced its support for Georgia’s SB601, the Georgia Educational Freedom Act, sponsored by Sen. Miller, Sen. Dixon, and Sen. Mullis.

This legislation would establish promise scholarship accounts to empower families directly to decide how to best to allocate state education per-pupil funds to meet their child’s unique learning needs, whether that’s through public school, private school, charter school, homeschool, learning pods, or something else.

David Casas, Director of Grassroots Operations for The LIBRE Initiative-Georgia, released the following statement:

“If passed, the Georgia Educational Freedom Act would be transformative for Georgia’s education system and students’ lives. It’s time to re-center our approach to education around the students. Parents and guardians—the main caretakers of students—should be empowered with the resources and freedom to decide how to meet the unique learning needs of their children. We urge Georgia’s Senators pass this common-sense education reform, so more students can reach their full potential and grow up to contribute to Georgia’s diverse workforce in a way that fulfills them.”
