White House Should Not Reinstate Family Separation

(Arlington, VA) – The president has stated that he is considering reinstituting a policy of separating parents and children who are apprehended at the U.S. border, with a goal of deterring unlawful immigration.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“As we have said before, the zero tolerance policy is a mistake. It does not deter unlawful immigration. It does not keep us safer, and it has serious negative consequences – including the risk of diverting resources best used on other priorities. It just doesn’t work. It is far past time for a debate in Congress on how to address current challenges. We stand ready to work with anyone to update our outdated immigration laws and address this issue.”
