The LIBRE Initiative Stands in Solidarity with the Cuban People’s Desire for Freedom

(Arlington, VA) – The LIBRE Initiative, an organization committed to empowering the Latino community, issued a statement in response to reports of pro-freedom demonstrations happening in Cuba, South Florida and in other parts of the country.

According to reports, the Cuban regime is actively taking steps to limit internet communication and has a long track record of repressive crackdowns on dissidents and free expression.

Daniel Garza, president of The LIBRE Initiative, said: 

“We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with every Cuban, living on the island or elsewhere, yearning for a free and prosperous Cuba. Just as importantly, we condemn any actions that inhibit the right of any person to assemble peacefully and express themselves freely.”

Garza went on to add: 

“During this critical inflection point, it is important that the Cuban people – and the Cuban people alone – decide what type of government they want to live under to pursue happiness, prosperity, and increased opportunity for all.
