The LIBRE Initiative Advocates for Pension Reform

Latinos Would Benefit From Long-term, Solvent Solution

Albuquerque, NM – The LIBRE Initiative-NM is encouraging the state legislature to support SB 72 which seeks to reform the Public Employees Retirement Associate (PERA) pension fund. Activists are urging lawmakers to unite and to do what is in the best interest of hardworking New Mexicans across the state.

Ruben Guajardo, Coalitions Director for The LIBRE Initiative-NM, released the following statement:

“Our state’s economic future could be in jeopardy unless we move forward with meaningful pension reform. New Mexico’s Hispanic community would benefit from seeing a long-term, solvent solution that will lessen the burden on taxpayers and create a system of transparency and accountability. SB 72 would institute some much-needed reforms to PERA. We look forward to working with lawmakers, on both sides of the aisle, to enact positive changes to New Mexico’s pension system.”
