Support Good Faith Efforts to Protect the Dreamers

(Washington, D.C.) – Today House Republicans met to discuss options for a proposal to resolve the current status of the Dreamers and border security.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“We’re encouraged that the House of Representatives is working toward an agreement on the Dreamers, and by the willingness of all members to come to the table in the spirit of advancing a proposal. We look forward to seeing the details of the proposal. Our concerns regarding arbitrary cuts to legal immigration levels remain, but we do applaud that the effort, as reported, includes a permanent solution for more than a million Dreamers, including a path to citizenship.

There is clearly broad support in the House, in the Senate, and among the American people to protect the Dreamers, so it is high time Congress got this done. The uncertainty around the status of the Dreamers and the lack of a defined legal process is one that is holding back many in our communities from fully exercising their skills and talents to the benefits of all of us. We encourage Members of Congress to work in good faith for a successful vote in the days ahead, and we stand ready to work with them on this first step.”
