Senate Declines to Add Corporate Handouts to FAA Legislation

(Washington, D.C.) – Although some lawmakers and their special interest supporters sought to sneak in corporate tax breaks to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill currently being debated in the Senate, it now looks like these measures will not make it into legislation, paving the way for a ‘clean’ bill. The provisions in question would have extended more than $1 billion in corporate welfare for favored energy industries.

As part of a campaign against corporate welfare, The LIBRE Initiative joined with Americans for Prosperity and over 30 free market groups in calling for senators to oppose using the FAA as a vehicle to extend unrelated tax subsidies for renewable energy and other industries.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“We commend those who opposed attaching any tax break package for special interests to the FAA reauthorization bill. The LIBRE Initiative stood with more than 30 organizations against corporate welfare, because we believe that the power to decide success in this country should always be in the hands of the American free market. Hardworking Americans should never have to pick up the tab to prop-up special interests.”
