(Washington, D.C.) – Leading members of the Senate Budget Committee have agreed on the outline of a budget resolution for 2018, which – if approved by Congress – would expedite efforts to reform the tax code. Congressional leaders in both parties have spoken about the importance of reforming and simplifying the tax code.

Daniel Garza, President of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Many Latino families are having a hard time building and achieving the American Dream. With taxes taking a big bite out of salaries, it can be a challenge to pay for education, health care, and other necessities. Latinos know that the tax burden also stifles economic opportunity, preventing the job growth that people count on to succeed and prosper. That’s why the Latino community will get a real boost if leaders in Washington come together on a plan to make the tax code simple, efficient, fair, and predictable – without imposing a new burden on taxpayers.

Policymakers in Washington should work in good faith to reach across the aisle for real tax reform. Hardworking Americans should be able to keep more of what they earn, and politicians and the well-connected should be prevented from rigging the system to their own benefit. The progress being made in Congress toward these goals is encouraging, and we hope it will continue.”
