Occupational Licensing Reforms Passage: Major Win for Hispanics

Tallahassee, Florida – The LIBRE Initiative Florida, an organization committed to removing internal and external barriers so that the Hispanic community can thrive and contribute to a more prosperous America, praised the passage of House Bill 1193, legislation that would reduce unnecessarily onerous and burdensome occupational licensing requirements for certain professions including cosmetology, hair braiding, barbering and other professions.

In response to the bill’s passage in the Florida Legislature, Cesar Grajales, Coalitions Director for The LIBRE Initiative – FL, issued the following statement:

“Millions of Latinos have immigrated to the U.S, and specifically Florida, in search of economic opportunity. Unfortunately, unnecessarily burdensome regulations have often represented a barrier for many Latinos looking to enter the workforce. But thanks to the passage of HB 1193, Floridians will find it easier to pursue meaningful and productive work in athletic training, interior design, cosmetology, hair braiding, barbering and other professions. We encourage Gov. DeSantis to sign this legislation into law without delay.”

Grajales went on to add:

“We especially want to thank Chair Blaise Ingoglia and Chair Ben Albittron for their leadership in shepherding this legislation through the Legislature.”
