Obama, Clinton Meet to Promote ACA

Will Americans Enroll Despite Cost, Other Concerns?

(Washington, D.C.) – Today President Obama joined former President Bill Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative. The two held a discussion which is intended to help build support for the Affordable Care Act (also called the ACA or Obamacare). This event comes as evidence builds that the ACA is likely to kill traditional, employer-sponsored health care.

Jorge A. Lima, Director of Policy, The LIBRE Initiative released the following statement:

"As President, Bill Clinton recognized the importance of talking to ordinary Americans and to Congress. He understood that Washington needed the support of the American people to accomplish real, lasting changes – like reforming welfare and balancing the federal budget. Unfortunately, President Obama took the opposite approach when he pushed through a damaging health care plan that is even more unpopular today than when it narrowly passed Congress.

Enrollment is scheduled to begin under the Affordable Care Act in one week. Americans are losing the opportunity to work as their employers attempt to comply with the law's mandates. Health costs are on the rise. And a clear majority understands the problems that this law is causing. It is time to replace it with true bipartisan, patient-centered reform."
