New National Poll Shows Latinos Souring on President
Hispanic Community Seeks a New Direction

(Washington, D.C.) – According to the most recent NBC/Wall Street Journal/Telemundo poll, the Latino community is increasingly negative about the performance of the president and the direction of the country. In April 2013, 62 percent of Latinos approved of the president's performance in office. Now just 47 percent do. The percentage believing the nation is on the wrong track has grown from 42 percent to 56 percent. Only 30 percent believe the nation's economy will improve in the next year.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

"Latinos invested a great deal of hope in this president and this administration, and unfortunately it hasn't been rewarded. With broken promises on the economy, immigration, and health care, they're clearly deeply disappointed in a president who did not deliver.

It's time for a new approach. Hispanics were hoping to see a growing private sector with opportunities to create businesses, more jobs and higher wages. They wanted Congress and the president to work in a bipartisan way on immigration reform. And they were promised greater choice and lower cost in health care. The president has more than two years left in his term. There is still time to reach across the aisle to address these top priorities, and to leave a lasting, positive legacy. But it will take a change in course."
