The LIBRE Initiative Prepares for Start of Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month was established by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to honor Hispanics who have come to the United States as immigrants – as well as those who have been born and raised here – and the multitude of ways they have enriched our culture and national life. With the Hispanic population reaching a record 58.6 million in 2017 and a buying power of $1.3 trillion, Latinos can be accredited for 29 percent of the growth in real income since 2005. Seventeen percent of all workers are Latinos, and together we open businesses at a higher rate than the national average, accounting for 21 percent of new entrepreneurs.
