The LIBRE Initiative Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

(Washington, DC) – Today the team of The LIBRE Initiative commemorates the life and work of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr.

Daniel Garza, Executive Director of The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“The life and legacy of Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. are a testament to the power of ideas, and the power of self-sacrifice and service. Dr. King dedicated his entire life to showing his fellow Americans that all of us are intrinsically equal – regardless of our skin color, or our income, or who our parents were. We are all endowed by our creator with dignity, a dignity that calls for all of us to live together as brothers and sisters. Ultimately Dr. King gave his life in service to this powerful, irresistible idea.

It is no accident that decades later, we continue to honor Martin Luther King, Jr., his work, and his legacy. But to honor it properly, we are called on to further his work. Dr. King said that to serve, all it takes is “a heart full of grace – a soul generated by love.” Let each of us – in our own way – do what we can to bring about a society that offers respect and opportunity for all, and where everyone can build a better life; where everyone can live in peace, equality, and freedom.”
