LIBRE Calls on Americans to Live Dr. King’s Vision

(Washington, D.C.) – Today millions of Americans commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King is remembered as a leader who gave his life in pursuit of a more equal society where people will “not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

Daniel Garza, Executive Director for The LIBRE Initiative, released the following statement:

“Nearly 50 years after he was tragically taken from us too soon, the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King remain as important today as they ever were. Dr. King called for an America where all enjoy equality of opportunity and treatment under the law, regardless of skin color; where hard work is revered and honored; and where freedom of religious expression is protected. He appealed to America’s better angels, calling for us to live up to our nation’s creed – as a land where each of us has the right to pursue our own dream, and where we live in peace as brothers and sisters. No nation in history has made the strides that America has toward achieving these lofty goals, but much still needs to be done. Today is the perfect day to remember this American hero, and to reflect on how we live this vision.”
